WOOLCRAFT – a part of The Australian Sheep & Wool Show
Woolcraft at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show began when the wives of the sheep breeders decided they needed to show their creations with the wool their husbands were so proud of.
Today the Woolcraft section of the Show is growing each year and encourages the sharing of skills and knowledge. Craft groups sell finished items and small/new commercial suppliers sell their fibre and wool related goods in a friendly and supportive atmosphere with a potential 20,000 people in attendance. There are currently six sheds packed full of fibre, yarn, tools, equipment, books and much more. Many different crafts are featured including knitting, spinning, weaving, felting, crocheting and dyeing. There are also demonstrations and opportunities to try techniques, ask questions and learn something new.
The Woolcraft Competition is also growing each year and provides plenty of inspiration for those who didn’t enter and attractive potential rewards for those who did. Exquisite garments featured in the competition are also modelled at the Woolcraft fashion parades.
Competition catalogues are available for purchase in the biggest Woolcraft shed where we have a table if you need help, have questions or require information.
Raffle tickets are also available with some really amazing prizes!
I visited the Australian Sheep & Wool Show in Bendigo for the first time this year and was enthralled by what I saw. I plan to go again next year and bring my sister with me. I hope to be able to make some exhibits to enter in the Woolcraft Competition.
Hi I’m a Queenslander and would love to come to the 2023 show. Would be happy to volunteer
Hi Katrina, that’s great! I’ll share your email address with the Woolcraft Committee for follow up.
